The flute and harp duo (pictured below) performed for an exclusive event at the newly renamed Crown (formerly Burswood Entertainment Complex). Providing some beautiful background music in the Botanical Room, where guests experienced Texas Hold 'Em Poker' with some of the Casino's best Croupiers.
This was a great networking idea full of fun, communication and fine food and was a wonderful opportunity for the interstate and international delegates who attended the ARRB Conference hosted in Perth this year to test their strategies.

Traditional Jewish Wedding Service

Prescott Court, situated in the surrounds of the University of Western Australia, was the pastoral setting for a beautiful Jewish Wedding Service. The Rabbi had a lilting voice and his traditionally sung blessings carried effortlessly around the gardens. Traditional music for a Jewish service we have performed for the Processional are Erev Shel Shoshanim, Yedid Nefesh, Dodi Li and for the Recessional Simon Tov, Chosen Kalle Mazel Tov and Od Yeshoma.

Popular Wedding Readings

The readings you choose at your wedding service are an important spiritual moment and need to be chosen with thoughtful honesty. One of the most popular liturgical words chosen are from Corinthians.

Love is patient and kind;
Love is not jealous or boastful;
It is not arrogant or rude.

Love does not insist on its own way;
It is not irritable or resentful;
It does not rejoice at wrong, but rejoices in the right.

Love bears all things,
Believes all things,
Hopes all things,
Endures all things.

Love never ends.

Another lovely Biblical reading is from Saint Paul and is titled Reflection.

Give yourself to one another completely, be generous in your giving ad make no conditions for your gifts. Love one another constantly and fully. Be humble in your acceptance of your partner's love and strive to develop its riches day by day. Respect each other every day. Be patient with one another's weaknesses and accept each other for what you are, not for what you wish one another to be. Communicate constantly with each other. Be calm,patient and tolerant. Be capable of listening. Share with one another, fortune an misfortune alike. Be compassionate and express your love for one another constantly. Know your limitations and be honest with yourself as you are with one another. Fuse your souls into one and be happy for the love you have been so fortunate to find.

Modern Processional Music

We recently had the pleasure of accompanying our favourite Songbird Rae-Helen Fisenden
at St Brigids Catholic Church.
The lucky bride walked into an exquisite rendition of La Novia , The Wedding Song.
The song was originally written in Spanish by Chilean Musician Joaquin Prieto in 1958 and translated into English by Fred Jay, hitting the top of the charts in the 1960's. There is a musical allusion to Schubert's well known and loved Ave Maria, which we often perform at Catholic Services.

Duxton Hotel Perth 10 Year Anniversary

The 'Glitz and Glamour' factor was well and truly catered for at Perth's Duxton Hotel's 10 Year Anniversary Celebration, commemorating the establishment of the Hotel on one of Perth's historic sites, formerly the Perth Tax office and originally the Christian Brother's College.
The facade of the hotel provides an aura of culture and sophistication and in keeping with the immaculate presentation of the venue, our stylish trio, Tres Classique were invited to perform at this prestigious event. Guests enjoyed their beautiful music in the newly refurbished foyer while sipping french champagne and nibbling gourmet delights.

Tres Masque

The 'Masque' is a term used to describe a form of courtly entertainment popular in the 16th and 17th Century's. Masked players would unexpectedly call on nobility in their hall, dancing and presenting gifts to celebrate auspicious occasions. Traditionally, at the completion of their performance, the actors, musicians and dancers would remove their masks to reveal their identities.

In keeping with Venetian traditions, the musicians from Tres Classique gave a masked performance, with pageantry, aristocratic panache and classical style, creating just the right Carnival atmosphere. Who are our players pictured above? Who is the Angel of Music?

Christmas Entertainment - Corporate

Christmas is officially here! Our first corporate Xmas function launched us firmly into the season. We performed under the Magnificent Glowing Tree at The Forrest Centre Foyer for the Insurance Commission's Annual Event.
We were kindly joined on the evening by guest Violinist Christina Katsimbardis, who is pursuing further exciting performance opportunities in 2012 in Banff, Canada and Europe, after becoming the proud recipient of a Churchill Fellowship recently. She can be heard leading the Perth Symphony Orchestra on December 17th , 7pm, at the Fremantle Esplanade and along with fellow Orchestra members, Tresna and Anna (also pictured) , will be playing music from Star Wars, Merlin and The Pirates of the Caribbean. It is free...so no excuses! Bring along a picnic and ENJOY!

Karta Garup Lookout Perth Western Australia

Outdoor Weddings in Perth present unique opportunities and challenges for the Bride and Groom with many considerations required. Do you provide market umbrellas and chairs for the older family members? Will it be windy? What if it rains? Is there disabled access? By addressing these issues when planning your special day and by organising appropriate solutions and contingency plans, will ensure the day is stress free and enjoyable for all.
The Bride and Groom pictured above at Kings Park's Karta Garup Lookout, experienced the perfect wedding day by engaging the legendary planner Lara White from White Events .
Lara had everything under control, from the precision Entry of the Bride, down to the superb floral arrangements (attached to the Lookout balustrade with White Silk ties), the secured Market Umbrella (weighted accordingly to cater for the 18 knot Sea Breeze) to the pristine White Carpet, nothing was left to chance or the fickleness of Mother Nature. This made the day a memorable and exciting event for all present.

Alternative Rain Venues

When planning an outdoor wedding ceremony it is prudent to include a Rain Venue Alternative. This will alleviate any stress on the day. The Bride & Groom above had booked the tranquil UWA Sunken Gardens, but Mother Nature decided to provide a precipitous blessing.
The suppliers, such as ourselves, the Celebrant and Touched By Angels were aware of the Alternative Venue and the seamless transition meant the service started on time and that the setting was as romantic and stunning as expected. The eaves at Winthrop Hall had been booked as the rain venue and this ensured our happy couple were kept high and dry, and that the other Bridal Parties who assumed they would be able to use the area for photo's were disappointed. So plan ahead! There is a very interesting article 'Rainy Day' in the Cosmopolitan Bride Magazine.

Perth Wedding Ceremony Music

The newly refurbished St Benedict's Church in Ardross , with its immaculately polished marble steps, natural wooden pews and hand crafted statue overlooking the alter, has a naturally resonant acoustic enhanced by the high ceilings and natural light streaming in from all angles. This type of venue lends itself to the 'live' music experience. The flute, violin,cello trio is an excellent combination for this size venue and 'Bittersweet Symphony' an inspired choice for a Bridal Entry, with the strings creating an expansive sound with sustained double stops, while the flute floats over the top with rhythmic precision. Almost better than the 'original' Verve version!

Winter Arts Festival - Perth City

The Annual City of Perth 'Winter Festival' provided a unique 'street' performance experience for the String Quartet. The torrential downpour provided an interesting 'rhythmic' accompaniment to our Mozart Divertimenti, with 'Mother Nature' participating in all her glory.
Here we are, pictured outside the Westpac Building in St Georges Terrace, with our fellow 'Live Statue' artist, getting into our 'performance art' mode.

Wedding Panning Tips

Avoiding Wedding Music Mishaps

Music Planning Tips for a Seamless Wedding Ceremony

The part of the wedding ceremony that requires the most planning, from a musical standpoint, is the processional. While the main responsibility falls on the musicians that all of this goes smoothly, there are a few simple steps you can take to avoid wedding mishaps and ensure that the ceremony music comes off smoothly.

One way to insure that the processional is seamless is to establish a "Cue Person". If you are the bride or groom or wedding helper, feel free to print out this web page and give it to your Cue Person. Here are some planning guidelines we hope are useful to you.

Establishing a Cue Person

This is probably the most important thing you can do to avoid mishaps and ensure that the timings during the processional are seamless. The Cue Person acts as a liaison between those who will be processing and the musicians. If you have a wedding planner, most likely she or he will be giving the cues. If you do not have a wedding planner, make sure the Cue Person attends the wedding rehearsal.

Check in with the Musicians

The first duty of the Cue Person is to check in with the musicians before the prelude music begins. The prelude often starts 20 to 30 minutes before the ceremony so the Cue Person will need to arrive early. The Cue Person and musicians can go over what cues are needed and how they will communicate. Normally, there is a head musician whom the Cue Person will communicate with. The Cue Person usually will be stationed where the bridal party will be entering for the processional. The only cue signals needed are,

1) a head nod for "Yes"

and

2) a head shake for "No"

Simple as that!

Seating of the Mothers

If you have special music for the seating of the mothers, the first cue is to inform the musicians that the mothers are ready to be seated. The Cue Person should make eye contact with the lead musician and nod "Yes". Make sure that the mothers do not process until the prelude music stops and the new music begins. This may be a minute or so as the musicians need to find a suitable place to stop and not abruptly cut off the music.

Processional of the Attendants

The processional for the attendants can begin immediately after the mothers are seated or there can be a break between the two events. In either case, be sure of these three simple things;

1) If you want the processional to begin right after the mothers are seated, have the Cue Person check that everyone is ready before the mothers are seated. This is especially important for large wedding parties or processionals that include flower girls and ring bearers.

2) After the mothers are seated, the cue person will give a "Yes" nod to the musicians that everyone is ready to process. We strongly suggest doing this even if the attendants are supposed to process immediately after the mothers are seated, just in case there is an unexpected delay. If there is an unexpected delay, such as your maid of honor's shoe strap breaks (!), have the cue person shake his or her head "No." That way, the musicians know if they need to provide some filler music. So an important responsibility of the Cue person is to deal with delay issues as they come up.

3) The Cue Person should remind the attendants that the music will stop and new music will begin before they process

Processional of the Bride

Once the processional of the attendants is finished - seamlessly, of course, because you followed our advice and established a Cue Person! - it is time for the bride's grand entrance. While we often see delays with the attendants, we rarely see delays for the bride's entrance. Sometimes the person officiating gives a signal for the guests to stand and this provides a cue for the musicians. Other times the music starts first and then the guests stand. Unless there is an indication from the Cue Person, the musicians should assume that the bride is ready for her grand entrance. So if you are the bride, just take a deep breath and when the music changes begin your processional. There's no need to rush. Take your time and enjoy the moment. You will never be so close to being treated as royalty!

As you can see, the often overlooked but important Cue Person can be the solution to wedding planning mishaps and mistakes. It can ensure that your ceremony proceeds smoothly as planned through the processional music. And that is one less problem to worry about on your special day!

Gothic Grace

These three 'angels' performed under the Neo-Gothic Stained Glass window at St Josephs Catholic Church in Subiaco. Acoustics were pristine as the outdoor alcove provided the perfect backdrop both visually and structurally, for the sound to carry effortlessly throughout the Piazza. Pictured on violins are Pascale Whiting and Stephanie Dean and on cello is Noeleen Wright. All three ladies perform regularly for Tres Classique and enjoy the sonorous sounds of a traditional string trio. RAW Talent

The string team from Tres Classique performed for the GStar RAW Store Opening recently. Known for its innovative and cutting edge style in the world of denim, G Star dressed our musicians in their designer gear, a modern take on our concert gowns and tails. The trio rocked it up, with rough and raw repertoire that included Augie March, Coldplay, Metallica, The Killers, Florence and the Machines, David Gray, Greenday, Train, Lifehouse, Jason Mraz, The Verve and the White T's. Double stopping, pizzicato's and phenomenal ricochet bowing , kept the sound distinct (and slightly unorthodox for a traditional string ensemble), creating the perfect 'funky' vibe for the All Star Event.

Australian Traditional Wedding Ceremony

In true Australian tradition, Karen and John chose to get married in their beautiful back yard , inclusive of an organic garden, blooming pink petunias and pearl lanterns, all presided over by one of Perth's most respected and cherished celebrants, Ken Booth. The couple chose to compose their own wedding vows, creating a unique and deeply personal ceremony.
The Flute and Harp Duo set the romantic mood effortlessly, playing Karens favourite tunes from Phantom of the Opera in memory of her late Grandma, who had recently passed away.
Karen, looking magnificent in her couture gown , entered to Vivaldi's 'Spring' , a perfect choice for a pastoral setting.

University of WA - Winthrop Hall

The UWA Fogarty Foundation Awards and Scholarships were held at the majestic Winthrop Hall. We performed for the pre-event arrival of the candidates in the Courtyard and then inside, on the acoustically satisfying stage of the great hall. As graduates of the University, the Ceremony was a fond reminder of our years as students and our own graduation ceremonies attended by our families, so it was great performing once again, in one of our favourite venues.

Stewarts @ Brookleigh, Upper Swan

VIOLINIST- PASCALE WHITING

CELLIST - EMMA MCCOY

Stewarts at Brookleigh , Upper Swan, is a unique venue, offering a great range of outdoor options for Ceremonies, from the Stables (for something rustic), to the Homestead (limestone grandeur and tall pine trees), the Gazebo ( overlooking the lake and pastoral paddocks filled with horses grazing on the green grass) , the Stewarts Restaurant (quaint, yet funky French Provence chic) and of course, the actual Equestrian Arena ( for any Ben Hur enthusiasts).
The hot temperatures have been kicking in of late, but despite Mother Nature turning up the heat, all went very smoothly at Kevin and Samantha's wedding at Brookleigh. Popular Celebrant, Sue Henthorn officiated, looking calm, unflustered and immaculately attired , while the string trio, (also looking calm, unflustered and immaculately attired) provided a selection from Handel's ' Water Music' to keep every one in a 'cool' mood prior to the arrival of the Bride. The two photos above were kindly supplied by Dave Henthorn, from Profesional Photgraphics. Click on the title above to see more of Dave's creative genius on Sue's 'Marry Me ' website.

Music for an Outdoor Wedding Ceremony

The majority of weddings the Tres Classique Ensemble Players perform for are outdoors. Beautiful locations outside have great appeal, yet also bring some challenges and unpredictable elements. With some advanced planning, an outdoor wedding can go smoothly, even if the weather doesn't cooperate.

Have a Clear Backup Plan

If you decide on an outdoor wedding ceremony, you may want to consider having it on the grounds of the venue where you are having the reception. There are many venues that have beautiful grounds that are appropriate for outdoor weddings. In the event of inclement weather, you can have the ceremony in the reception location.

If you have an outdoor wedding in a more remote location, you have a couple of options. Some couples rent a marquee and hold the ceremony and reception in the same place. This way, in case of rain, the wedding can continue without having to change locations. Be sure the marquee has sides that can be rolled down in case of heavy rain or wind. Another option is having the ceremony outside in one location and the reception at a venue in a nearby area. In case of rain, you can reserve the reception venue as a backup for the ceremony. Be sure to include the backup plan in your invitations.

Also, please communicate with your musicians up front the back up plan and the time to avoid any surprises.

Serenity @ St Michaels Chapel

Here we are in the beautiful Chapel of St Michael the Archangel in West Leederville. It is one of the most popular wedding ceremony venues in Western Australia. The neo-Gothic architecture is the perfect backdrop, with its painted religious murals, high domed archways and stained glass windows, it is reminiscent of the magnificent 13th Century Leon Cathedral (Notre-Dame) in France.
